Klitschko TKOs Chagaev
Wladimir Klitschko (53-3, 47 KOs), the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, needed ten uneventful rounds to finally break down previously undefeated Ruslan Chagaev (25-1-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday night before 60,000 + at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
The bout followed the same pattern we’ve seen from Klitschko over the last few years. “Be cautious, use height advantage, jab, jab, right hand.” That’s basically all Klitschko needed.
Chagaev was dropped hard in the second round but rose and took a slow punishing beating until the 9th round. He simply could never get inside Klitschko’s defense. The bout would eventually be stopped in between rounds by Chagaev’s corner, and was officially ruled a 10th round TKO.
With the victory, Wladimir Klitschko becomes the Ring Magazine’s Heavyweight Champion.
