Fight Predictions – June 27, 2009
Victor Ortiz vs. Carlos Maidana - The winner of this matchup could very well be a future superstar in the junior welterweight division. Both are young, hungry, punchers and those ingredients almost always ensure an exciting encounter. Ortiz hasn't really been tested yet and Maidana is sure to provide a test. This matchup is a real coin flip. However, there is an inclination towards Ortiz, whom HBO has been building up. Don't be shocked if both fighters hit the canvas at some point. This may be short, brutal, a FOTY candidate. Prediction: Ortiz via TKO

Klitschko TKOs Chagaev
Wladimir Klitschko (53-3, 47 KOs), the IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, needed ten uneventful rounds to finally break down previously undefeated Ruslan Chagaev (25-1-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday night before 60,000 + at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The bout followed the same pattern we’ve seen from Klitschko over the last few years. “Be cautious, use height advantage, jab, jab,... [Read more]
Pacquiao Fans Outraged By Catchweight Stance
By Juan Angel Zurita (June 19, 2009) - Earlier this week I wrote an article where I stated that if Manny Pacquiao convinces established welterweights Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley to face him for their welterweight titles at any weight below 147 (welterweight limit), he should be criticized just like many have criticized Oscar De La Hoya throughout his career for performing similar catchweight tactics. Apparently,... [Read more]

(June 18, 2009) – Boxing promoter Bob Arum was on Olvera Street on Thursday to hawk his Latin Fury 10 card July 25 at Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, headlined by the latest Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. bout (more on that later). Since the boxing world’s most fervent interest is in another Arum fighter, Manny Pacquiao, I asked him if there was any news on the negotiations to stage a Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto... [Read more]
Fight Predictions – June 19, 2009
Wladimir Klitschko vs. Ruslan Chagaev - Can the undefeated southpaw Chagaev provide Klitschko with a real test? Chagaev didn’t look so hot in his last couple of bouts, but this could be the type of fight that motivates him to compete at the highest level. Wlad is on quite a run and it’s difficult to see him losing to any of the current heavyweight contenders right now. However, as the... [Read more]

Instead of postponing the bout altogether, Klitschko searched for a worthy replacement, and... [Read more]

Pacquiao Looking to Take a Page Out of the De La Hoya-Mayweather Playbook
By Juan Angel Zurita (June 15, 2009) - Throughout his career, Oscar De La Hoya was often criticized for conning fighters in to making concessions which would perceivably give him an advantage in a bout. On the way up from super featherweight (130 lbs) to junior welterweight (140 lbs), he was criticized for making smaller fighters move up to face him in a weight class he was more comfortable at. At... [Read more]
